Find Your Story: Five Lists to Make

You know you need to stand out from the swarms of other soon-to-be college students. And to be honest--this can be paralyzing! If you’re anything like I was, you might find yourself wondering, “how is my story really all that unique?” You might feel a bit like Nemo as he suddenly finds himself invisible in a dizzying school of other seemingly-identical clownfish. But take heart, soon-to-be college student! You have a story no one else can tell!





Grab your journal or open a fresh Google doc. Read these questions then make a list for each. Don’t try to write what sounds smart or interesting, just do some verbal vomit. Get it out on the page.


LIST:

  1. What matters to you, more than almost anything else in the world? List 10 things. Go!

  2. If you could spend your time doing anything, what would you do? List ten things you’d love to do.

  3. What’s something in your life that has surprised you? Go for 10 things that surprised you.

  4. Describe one day in your life where everything changed. List 10 important moments.

  5. Describe yourself as a little kid. How are you the same? How are you different? List 10 ways.
